Helping stale mates become soul friends...

In the Celtic tradition, there is a beautiful understanding of love and friendship. The old Irish term anam cara is translated as “soul friend.” When you have an anam cara, there is a deep sense of belonging and recognition. You are understood and accepted as you are, and you become completely open and trusting of that individual. Anam cara’s feel safe and secure with each other.

My goal for couple’s therapy is to facilitate the restoration of a strong, secure bond between partners, helping you to move from stale mates to soul friends. When I work with couples I find it helpful to use a combination of concrete interventions and emotional processing. The concrete interventions give couples immediate tools to increase communication and connection. The emotional processing helps partners access, unfold, and expand their emotional experiences, restructure their relational interaction style, and develop a secure attachment. I help couples with emotional processing using a powerful type of therapy called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT has been validated by over 20 years of empirical research. You can find more information about this type of couples therapy at the website for the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Couples tell me that my humorous, laid-back, relational style helps them feel comfortable and safe while exploring their relationship. They appreciate my ability to build a strong connection with each partner and to remain impartial.

If your relationship is feeling disconnected or distressed, let me help you transform from stale mates to soul friends!
